Stephan Sonnenberg is an Associate Professor of Practice and Director of the Human Rights Minor at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Stephan is a new transplant to the United States, having left Seoul National University in June of this year after spending five wonderful years directing the Human Dignity and Difficult Conversations Clinics at SNU School of Law. He also previously taught at Harvard and Stanford Law Schools, as well as at Bhutan’s only law school where he served as Associate Dean of Experiential and Clinical Legal Education. His academic and clinical work focuses on the intersection of human rights, development, and dispute resolution, and increasingly has also pulled him into the world of AI and new and emerging technologies. He has worked on human rights issues in upwards of 20 countries and a variety of contexts. Much of his current work focuses on human rights and technology, transitional justice, and migration caused by climate change. Stephan holds a JD from Harvard Law School, a MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School, and a BA from Brown University.
